Praise Habit: Psalm 100

by Aaron

Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
Worship the Lord with gladness;
come into his presence with singing.

Know that the Lord is God.
It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name.

For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures for ever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Psalm 100 (NRSV)

The worship we commit as believers is for a reason.

There is a cause to our joyful noise. The call to enter with thanksgiving and praise is given because of one thing and one thing alone:

Yahweh is Good.

When I say He is a good God, I am not making some reference to my approval of His ways of action. I am confessing that He is who He has said He is. The last stanza of the psalm brings to mind

Let me never forget that You are my reason, for You alone are Good.

    I give thanks to God for he is good.

    But He is also the same God who lets you reap what you sow.

    I want to remind everyone to do good, today.
